About Us

Building a vibrant community facility

Brierley Hill Civic has welcomed artists, performers, and theatre productions since the 1960s, standing proudly at the heart of our community. In recent years, however, its usage had fallen while costs remained the same or increased. The hall was frequently closed during the day, meaning it was not fulfilling its potential as a vibrant hub of diverse activities.

Rejuvenating the Civic

In February 2015, Dudley Council gave Dudley CVS the opportunity to rejuvenate Brierley Hill Civic Hall on an 18-month trial. This aligned with Dudley MBC’s goal of becoming a ‘community council’ – enabling and supporting communities to do things for themselves.

During the trial, the Civic underwent an extraordinary transformation, evolving from an underused and deteriorating venue into a thriving entertainment and community venue offering a diverse programme of events to suit a wide range of tastes and budgets.

Following the success of the trial, the Civic underwent an asset transfer process so that Dudley CVS could take over its management on a permanent basis. The transfer was completed in March 2020, just as the first COVID-19 lockdown began.

Despite the challenges that followed, Brierley Hill Civic Hall successfully rebuilt its programme and audiences. By 2022/23, the venue was welcoming more than 55,000 visitors a year across public and private events, meetings and conferences.

Investment in the Civic has continued, with improvements including refurbishment of the main bar, upgraded audio-visual facilities, refurbished seating, new toilet facilities, improvements to performer and service areas, and fresh decoration throughout.

Today, Brierley Hill Civic Hall is once again a thriving entertainment and community venue at the heart of the town, hosting live music, theatre, comedy, family entertainment, community events, private functions and much more.

The story continues. Further investment in Brierley Hill Civic forms part of the wider regeneration plans for Brierley Hill town centre, helping to secure and improve this much-loved venue for future generations.
